Annually on June 23 in Russia Balalaika Day is celebrated. It is a young holiday which was for the first time celebrated in 2008. In spite of the fact that isn't official, it is already quite popular among performers of a folk music. The balalaika is the most popular Russian national instrument with three strings which is a symbol of Russian people. The balalaika appeared in the 17th century. It was the musical instrument of peasants and shepherds.
