Охотское море является морем Тихого океана и отделяется от него полуостровом Камчатка, Курильскими островами и островом Хоккайдо. Море омывает берега России и Японии. Средняя глубина — 1780 м, максимальная глубина — 3916 м. С октября по май северная часть моря покрыта льдом.
