Мамаев курган - возвышенность на правом берегу реки Волги в Центральном районе города Волгограда, где во время Сталинградской битвы происходили ожесточённые бои начиная с сентября 1942 года. Сегодня Мамаев курган известен в первую очередь памятником-ансамблем «Героям Сталинградской битвы» с главным монументом «Родина-мать зовет!». На Мамаевом кургане существует несколько братских и индивидуальных могил, в которых покоится прах более 35 000 защитников Сталинграда.
Mamayev Kurgan is a hill on the right bank of the Volga river in the Central district of the Volgograd city where during the Battle of Stalingrad were fierce fighting since September, 1942. Today Mamayev Kurgan is known first of all for memorial ensemble "Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad" with the main monument "The Motherland Calls!". On Mamayev Kurgan there are several mass and individual graves in which ashes of more than 35 000 defenders of Stalingrad.
