В 1832 году в Санкт-Петербурге был создан Зоологический музей. В настоящее время музей находится в составе Зоологического института. Общее число выставленных экспонатов превышает 30 тысяч, а общая площадь экспозиции составляет 6 тысяч кв. м. В музее находится три зала. Первый зал посвящен насекомым и китообразным. Второй зал - рыбам, рептилиям, птицам, моллюскам и кораллам. Третий зал посвящен млекопитающим.

Total number of the exposed exhibits exceeds 30 thousand, and the total area of an exposition is 6 thousand sq.m. There are three halls in the museum. The first hall is devoted to insects and cetacea. The second hall - to fishes, reptiles, birds, molluscs and corals. The third hall is devoted to mammals.
