The Easter cake is similarity of church artos — big leavened bread, its national, "house" copy. In the Russian practice artos represents the high cylindrical bread consecrated in the first day of Paskha on a liturgy. For the first time the Easter cake appeared thanks to a tradition of spring ceremonial pastries. In Russia Easter cakes were baked two-three times a year, not only for Paskha, but also for other big holidays.
