On October 18, 1847 Alexander Nikolaevich Lodygin was born. This is a Russian electrician, an engineer, one of inventors of the glow lamp. Alexander was born in a family of poor nobles. He studied at the Moscow cadet infantry school, then served in St. Petersburg. Lodygin was engaged in development of the electric aircraft and was fond of creation of the glow lamp. Without having found financial assistance in Russia for realization of his ideas, he went by the invitation of the French government to Paris where was going to build his aircraft for use in war with Prussia. But defeat of France in war left plans of the engineer without realization. Then Alexander returned to St. Petersburg and started attending at Institute of technology classes on physics, chemistry and mechanics. In 1872 Lodygin applied for the invention of the glow lamp, and in 1874 — took out the patent for the invention in many countries.
