The Baikal seal lives only in Lake Baikal well-known for the whole world, in Russia. It is a fresh-water species of a seal. Length of this seal reaches 165 cm, and weight to 150 kg. Baikal seal live till 55 years. Still among scientists there is no single point of view as this animal got to Baikal. Most of researchers adhere to the point of view that the seal got into Baikal from the the Arctic ocean through system of the Yenisei-Angara Rivers during a glacial era. The Baikal seal possesses valuable fur, fat and meat. The local population hunts seals, however its hunting requires an official permission. It is included in the Red Book.
