On October 14, 1947 a human for the first time exceeded the sound speed. The first person who could do it was an American pilot Charles Elwood Yeger. He exceeded the sound speed on the experimental plane Bell X-1 during the operated horizontal flight. Subsequently he brought a big contribution to development of military aircrafts and astronautics to the USA. His aviation career proceeded more than 60 years, and during this time he could visit the most different corners of the globe, including the Soviet Union at the time of cold war. In 1947 on shooting "Jet Pilot" Charles Yeger on the same Bell X-1 made many effective air scenes. A story of overcoming of a sound barrier and in particular about Chuck Yeger's life are told by the movie "The Right Stuff" which received four Oscars in 1984.
