До 1923 года этот канал назывался Екатерининским каналом в честь императрицы Екатерины II. 6 октября 1923 года канал был переименован в честь русского драматурга и дипломата Александра Сергеевича Грибоедова, проживавшего в одном из домов на набережной канала, и стал называться каналом Писателя Грибоедова, а с 1931 года — каналом Грибоедова.
Griboyedov Canal is a channel in St. Petersburg which length is 5 km, width — 32 m, depth — 3,5 m. There are 21 bridges. Till 1923 this channel was called the Ekaterina's channel in honor of the empress Catherine II. On October 6, 1923 the channel was renamed in honor of the Russian playwright and diplomat Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov living in one of the houses on the canal embankment and began to be called the channel of the Writer Griboyedov, and since 1931 — Griboyedov Canal.
