26 ноября 1894 года родился Папанин Иван Дмитриевич. Это советский исследователь Арктики, доктор географических наук. Папанин родился в Севастополе, в семье матроса Военно-Морского флота. В 1923—1925 годах проходил обучение на Высших курсах связи, после которых был направлен в Якутию в качестве заместителя начальника экспедиции по строительству радиостанции. В 1932—1933 был начальником полярной станции Бухта Тихая (Земля Франца-Иосифа), а в 1934—1935 годах — станции на Мысе Челюскин. В 1937—1938 годах возглавлял первую в мире дрейфующую станцию «Северный полюс». Панин был заместителем директора Института океанологии АН СССР по экспедициям. В честь Папанина названы мыс на полуострове Таймыр, остров в заливе Сиваш (Азовское море), горы в Антарктиде и подводная гора в Тихом океане, а также несколько улиц в Москве.
On November 26, 1894 Papanin Ivan Dmitriyevich was born. This is a Soviet researcher of the Arctic, a doctor of geographical sciences. Papanin was born in Sevastopol, in a family of the sailor of Navy. In 1923 — 1925 he was trained on the High courses of communication after which he was sent to Yakutia as the deputy in chief of expedition on construction of radio station. In 1932 — 1933 he was a chief of the polar station Bay Silent (Franz Joseph Land), and in 1934 — 1935 — of a station on Cape Chelyuskin. In 1937 — 1938 he headed the first-ever drifting North Pole station. Panin was the deputy director of Institute of oceanology of Academy of Sciences of the USSR for expeditions. In honor of Papanin are called the cape on the Taimyr Peninsula, the island in the Gulf Sivash (Sea of Azov), mountains in Antarctica and the underwater mountain in the Pacific Ocean, and also some streets in Moscow.
