Valdai is a Russian city in the Novgorod region. It received a status of a city of Valdai only in 1770. The arrangement of Valdai on a post path between Moscow and St. Petersburg promoted prosperity of the city and development of craftings in it. Valdai handymen casting big bells and small hand bells were famous all aroun in Russia. Valdai was visited by Alexander Nikolaevich Radishchev, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, Nikolay Alekseevich Nekrasov, Vladimir Aleksandrovich Serov, Gabriel Romanovich Derzhavin. The city is located on the bank of the Valdai lake. Valdai is the popular tourist center. There is the only Museum of bells in Russia.
